A LOST BABY STROLLER!

We found a baby stroller earlier this month near the entrance to the church. We don't know if it was mistakenly left behind or was meant to be a donation. If the stroller belongs to you, please contact the parish office by the end of the day on Friday, October 30. If we don't hear from anyone, we will consider it a donation (Thank you!) and pass it along to Mary's Corner, for a family in need.

St. Thomas Parish,

Reflecting on the image I used last weekend of the purpose and meaning behind the gestures that we use, both at Mass and outside of Mass, I’m feeling incredibly grateful for the tremendous blessings God has given to our parish community:

The 2nd Annual 5K Tiger Trot and Kids Race last Saturday was an incredible success! Perfect weather, lots of fun, and using sports and athletics to glorify God through the gift of the bodies he’s given to us. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped plan and organize this event.
The annual parish picnic last Sunday: not even some rain could stop the joy of our community’s spirit! Great food, great bake sale, great games, great music and entertainment….a lot of work went into planning and coordinating this, thank you to all on the Picnic Committee!
And my thanks to all who have been so welcoming and inviting to Fr. Lucius as he begins his ministry with us. I am so grateful for another priest in our parish community, and I know he will use his gifts faithfully with all of us.

Last weekend, Jesus used the parable of the laborers and the wages to teach us that God’s generosity is not measured by our human calculations. His grace is offered freely and abundantly, even to those who come to him late in life or return after having wandered away. This weekend, Jesus speaks of a man and his two sons. The father asks each of them to go and work in the vineyard. One says “yes,” but never goes. The other initially says “no,” but eventually changes his mind and goes. Jesus asks the simple but challenging question: “Which of the two did his father’s will?”
There is something very practical about this parable. Jesus is teaching them, and us, that what we say and what we do really matter. It is possible to say all the right things, to make promises, to have good intentions, even to present ourselves as faithful, and yet never actually enter the vineyard and follow through. And it is equally possible for someone to struggle, hesitate, or even say “no” at first, but eventually turn around and do what is asked.

In my opinion, these two Gospel passages about the vineyard come at such a good time for us as a parish. Over the past couple of weekends, we have seen so many people talking about the life of our parish AND actually showing up and contributing to it! Volunteers planned and worked at the Tiger Trot. Others spent countless hours preparing the picnic. People cooked, baked, set up, cleaned up, played music, organized games, welcomed others, and helped make our parish community what it is. Those are more than just tasks on a to-do list. They are gestures that say something! They are ways of saying “yes” to God with our words, time, energy, gifts, and presence.

God has entrusted each of us with a place in his vineyard. The question is simply whether, when the Lord calls, we are willing to enter the vineyard. I am grateful for all of you who continue to say “yes” in so many different ways. May God continue to bless our parish and help each of us discover the particular work he is asking us to do in his vineyard.

A few announcements:

If you volunteer for a ministry and didn’t pick up your volunteer appreciation gift bag, those are in the Gathering Hall with your name on them.
This past Tuesday, we had the information session for the parish pilgrimage to France that is happening next September! People are signing up, people are excited, I’m excited to join together to visit and pray at these beautiful sites in France: Notre Dame Cathedral, St. Therese of Lisieux, and Our Lady of Lourdes. Don’t worry if you missed the session, all the details are on the pilgrimage webpage that can be found on the homepage of our website: www.stthomas-church.org.
This Monday, September 28, is the last Monday of the month, so we will have our evening Adoration prayer as usual from 7:30-8:30pm in the Church.
The annual School Gala & Auction is approaching on Friday, October 16. This year we are honoring Bob and Pat Ricchiuti who have been (and continue to be) so incredibly helpful to our parish, school, and diocese. Please join us that evening to thank them and to support our school. Sponsorships are needed and appreciated, please see www.stthomas-school.org for details.

Peace to you,
Fr. Matt

Their commitment, generosity, and countless contributions have helped make our community stronger, and we are so excited to have the opportunity to honor them for all they have done!

Help Us Light the Way for St. Thomas School!

We are asking our parish community to help us make this year’s Gala a success. Do you own a local business, work for a company that supports community organizations, or have a connection with a business or individual that may be interested in supporting St. Thomas School?

We are currently seeking:
Event Sponsors: Sponsorship opportunities are available at a variety of levels for businesses, families and individuals.

Live & Silent Auction Donations: Gift cards, merchandise, services, experiences, event tickets and other items are greatly appreciated.

Sometimes the most valuable help is simply making a connection. If you know a business or individual who may be willing to support the Gala, we would love an introduction!

Proceeds from the Gala directly support the students and programs of St. Thomas the Apostle School.

Interested in helping?
Contact Lucy Rubino at lrubino@stthomas-school.org or 518-439-5573 for sponsorship information, donation materials or to connect us with a potential supporter.

Thank you for helping us Light the Way for our students!
